July 31, 2019

She's 7! This year, we decided to take all of our kids to Disneyland to celebrate, but I'll talk more about that in another post. This post is all about Chelsea's interview!

Chelsea's 6-year Interview

She's 6! I think making my girl's dresses and doing these interview videos are my favorite birthday traditions! Here are links to the other interviews and pictures I've done with her:

Chelsea's 5th birthday!

June 20, 2017
Just one more! This blog is here to share what I learn, to *hopefully* inspire you to try something new, to spread the love of Peach-Rings around the world, and to document my family. The past three posts it's all about Chelsea, so... deal. ;)

Chelsea was really excited about her birthday this year and had her birthday party with friends totally and completely planned out. Unfortunately, her mother wasn't totally on board, so that party didn't exactly happen. But she did have a LOT of fun with friends that day and didn't say a word about not getting her Alicorn birthday party, so I guess the fun with friends that day sufficed!

Breakfast are basically the only photos I got, but I figure as long as we captured the girl and the decorations she set up for her own special day, we're good, right?

Chelsea's 5-year interview

June 18, 2017

It's a month late, but here it is! Chelsea's 5-year interview! I love doing these interviews because I feel like you really get a feel for Chelsea's personality, and you get some pretty good blackmailing material for the future! ;)

Chelsea's 5-year photos!

May 28, 2017

She chose something other than pink! I think it's Pinterest that did it because when I was deciding what dress to make her this year, we looked on Pinterest for some inspiration and she picked a dress that had ruffles and was green, so there ya go.

Hopes, dreams, and Soccer | Parenting

November 9, 2016
You always have these dreams, hopes, or even expectations for your children, even before they're born. You hope that they'll be obedient, kind, smart, etc. etc. and you expect them to learn these traits as they grow because you know they won't be perfect and get it the first time (no matter how hard you try to hammer it into their little brains!)

One of our hopes and dreams was that our daughter (who we named *partially* after the Chelsea soccer team in England), would play soccer. Since a young even younger age, it was clear to us that Chelsea had a gift with physical performance. She was up and walking by 9 months and took to her balance bike within an hour.

When it was almost soccer season, Andrew signed up to coach her team and we were all REALLY excited to start! Chelsea tried on her soccer gear and was especially fond of the pink shin guards, pink ball, and pink shoes.

I was really excited to see her play, but remembered her reaction to the first couple of dance classes she took last year and knew that she might be a little hesitant to jump right in, which she was, and I was okay with it that first practice. But after the second practice, I was pretty disappointed...

First practice

Second practice

Recently, I discovered that I've had this subconscious picture of how my oldest child should be and how that was affecting my parenting. I'm a little ashamed to say that in some instances, I haven't been very accepting of who she is because I was too busy trying to force her into this mold of who I thought she should be, or who I wanted her to be.

It all occurred to me on Sunday at choir practice when one of the singers brought his daughter who sat next to him reverently and even participated in the choir with her own, gentle voice. I turned to look at her a couple of times and thought, "That would not be my daughter," but not in a negative, or disappointed tone. I had the thought and I laughed to myself. I realized that the reason my daughter wouldn't sit still and participate the way this sweet little girl did is because that's not the kind of little personality that she is. My dad really put it in perspective when he pointed out that when Chelsea gets together with the cousins, she's running around with the boys!

So why am I trying to force her to be someone she's not?

So, my four-year-old would rather be running around instead of sitting still in church. So, she'd rather be outside jumping in leaves than learning the alphabet with me. So, she's not always happy or polite when she's meeting new little friends, or she'd rather flop down on the field when she's frustrated. She's only four years old and she is constantly learning and constantly growing. And she is awesome, exactly the way she is. High-energy and all!

... Well, after that second practice/game, she went to her third game and acted like those other two had never happened. She made friends with the girls on her team, kicked the ball around, participated, and even scored TWO GOALS! Andrew and I were so proud!

If you look closely at Andrew in the background, you can see he has a big 'ol smile on his face!

Should I accept all of Chelsea's behavior and just say "it's who she is?" No. I definitely do not want my daughter to grow up and give strangers the stink eye for the rest of her life, just because she doesn't know them (or whatever the reason is behind that look). That is something we have to work on. But I'm done trying to turn her into some kind of quiet, gentle, meek little creature that she simply isn't. I am going to love and accept her for the loud, rambunctious, energetic, passionate, particular little person that she is and stop trying to quash all that strong-will out of her or make her feel ashamed of who she is.

Most importantly, I want her to know that her mother loves her, every part of her, and that she will always have someone who accepts and loves her,

no matter what.

Monkey's on the bed | Olivia + Ocean

November 3, 2016
Visit Olivia + Ocean and enter OLIVIAANDSUE at checkout for 10% off your order

I----------t's photoshoot-on-the-bed season! As soon as it gets chilly outside, I opt for photos on my bed because, to be honest, it's the easiest spot to tidy up in my entire house. Now that Barrett's nursery is finished, I might stray there for a few photos this season, but today, it's the bed and our favorite swimmers ever, Olivia + Ocean who now carries little BOY swimmers!

I cannot TELL you how excited I was when Danielle told me she was opening a line of boy swimmers! The girls practically LIVED in their O+O suits this summer, so I knew that I needed one for Barrett, stat!

The quality of the boy trunks is every bit that of the girl's suits. I'm not worried about it stretching out, fading, or falling apart one bit!

I did make it out of the house to a local rec center to test his new trunks out.

He LOVES the water, which made our little Mommy-Son date truly enjoyable! I loved watching him splash the water all over himself and get adventurous crawling around (he is SO mobile!)

And he's so cute, you'd better believe he got a kiss afterward! ;)

I will forever back Olivia + Ocean 100% because it's a product and a business I really believe in. Not only does it sell modest, reliable, quality swimwear made entirely in the United States, it also donates a portion of its profit to water.org.

And I love this snippet from their About page:

"We believe swim time is a special time for parents to bond with their babies. It definitely has been for us! Our swimwear is meant to celebrate the magical childhood memories made in the water. "

I couldn't agree more. So many of my favorite memories were made in the water and I'm glad to know that we can make these memories in suits that my children can be their energetic little selves in and not have to worry about how long they'll last or they will actually keep my children covered, whether they're swimming in a pool, running through the sprinklers, playing in the sand, or jumping on the bed!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! And don't forget to stop by Olivia + Ocean before you close your browser (if you haven't already. I've linked back to them about, oh, 100 times in this post...)

California Vacation 2016 | Part III Legoland

October 9, 2016

Disneyland and Legoland?! We got lucky that Opa's coworker had two tickets she wasn't going to use!

Since we only had two tickets, we knew someone would have to stay home with the two little ones. I was the obvious candidate for that, but Andrew is the most wonderful husband and father ever and volunteered to stay home with Alexa and Barrett ALL DAY! The original plan was to keep Barrett home for half the day while Chelsea and I did all the rides we couldn't do with a baby, then Andrew would bring Barrett for the second half of the day, but that man is amazing and was able to keep Barrett happy all day so that Chelsea and I could spend the entire time together uninterrupted. It was such a fun day that we both look back on with GREAT fondness.

There was hardly a soul at the park the day we went. I think the longest we waited in line was about 5 entire minutes.

Chelsea was so brave! There were a couple of roller coasters at the park that I really wanted to try, and even though they made Chelsea a little nervous, she was brave and did them anyway. She is one awesome little four-year-old!

So embarrassingly good! Also, a worker got really mad at me after I took this. I just walked away. Haha!

My favorite parts of the trip were the rides that Chelsea was able to go on alone. I loved watching her face light up with each new experience.

Her favorite part was DEFINITELY the Bouncing Beetle ride. She rode on it 5 times. In a row.

Chelsea and the little girl in the seat next to her were so adorable to watch giggling together as the ride bounced them up and down!

I know Chelsea is super adorable in this picture and all, but look at those siblings on the end! Heart eyes.

 Pure. Joy.

And, of course, we loved the Star Wars Lego creations!

I cannot over-emphasize how wonderfully perfect this day was! Chelsea was so happy, excited, brave, obedient, polite, kind, and just totally wonderful. She loved trading Lego men around until she found the one that she liked best and wanted to stick with.

Oh how I love my four-year-old and thank my Heavenly Father every day for that hilariously funny little girl!
