I met Miranda at a park. I was there with a group of my friends, and she was there with a group of hers. The children had all kind of mingled at the beach volleyball court and the two of us began talking. We became fast friends and about a year later, she told me that she was pregnant with her second child and wanted me to be her doula and birth photographer. I was overjoyed. I knew that her journey to pregnancy hadn't been easy, and that her first birth experience wasn't what she had wanted it to be. I was determined to help her to have a different experience this time.

The Birthing Center Birth of Eko
June 1, 2022I arrived at the birthing center at about 2:30PM. Kelli was in early labor, meeting each wave with calming, deep breaths, and smiling between waves. Leera was right by her side, along with her mother. There was rap music playing and the lights were dimmed low.
The One Where I Almost Caught a Baby
November 19, 2021You read that right... I almost caught someone's baby. And I am not a midwife. Let me tell you about it.
The Home Water Birth Story of Taylor
August 17, 2021I arrived at Nichole’s house at 8:45 PM. Andrew and I were at a game night with some friends when Nichole texted me, and while I was disappointed I wasn’t able to stay, I knew Nichole needed me, and I was excited to be there.
Why do some women choose to birth at home?
July 21, 2021I remember hearing about a parent of one of my students when I was student teaching in a first-grade classroom who had delivered all of her babies at home and thinking - I'm now ashamed to admit - how barbaric that was. *insert palm-forehead emoji here*
BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY | THE HOME WATER BIRTH OF LUCA
October 13, 2020It was two days before our move from Utah to Arizona. I had prayed and crossed my fingers that Jordan would go into labor, but it didn't look like it was going to happen. My backup photographers were in place for after I was gone and it broke my heart to give my mothers to them. I was especially sad to let go of this mother because she was a home-birth mama, and there is something really incredible about births like that. I was sorry I wouldn't get to be a part of it... until I got the call!
Birth Photography | Iris Love
January 13, 2020"Just three weeks before my due date with baby number three, my videographer cancelled. I was feeling nervous and stressed to find someone else on such short notice. I reached out to Susan and immediately she worked me into her busy schedule. She made my husband and I feel that our birth of our baby girl was very important to her and that she couldn't wait to capture the special moment. That is exactly what she did!
One of the biggest questions for beginner birth photographers is, "how do I shoot a c-section?" I've seen this question on Facebook group pages and been asked it by friends interested in what I do.
About 3 or 4 weeks before the upcoming EDD of a client, I send out a message to ask them how they're feeling, what the doctor/midwife has been saying to them, etc. so that nothing really comes as a surprise to me. I also just like to keep up to date with them and chat because I'm excited, too!
