A YEAR AGO TODAY

A year ago today, I understood what contractions are.

I understood how difficult childbirth is,

And how much I love your father.

A year ago today, I understood what worry really feels like,

How much I can love,

And what being a mother means.

A year ago today, I understood how much I love you.

Today, I still understand what contractions are,

How difficult it is to be a mother,

And what worry feels like.

Today, I am still learning what being a  mother means

And how much I love your father.

I am still learning that I can love far beyond what I used to believe,

And every day, I learn how much I love you, and how that love can grow.

Happy birthday, Chelsea. I love you very, very much.
